different coaches have different philosophies. This coaching staff is looking for more length on the line. Part of this is the "bigger guys beat up little guys" philosophy, but the other part is that with length, you can disrupt the passing lanes of the QB.
That is not to say that if there is a stud that doesn't fit their measurables, but wants to come to UCLA, I think they'll consider him.
I'm more of a leverage guy and like lower center of gravity guys with times of explosiveness. Wrestling background is a must. But if there is a 6'6" guy that has that, I would consider that player.
Next thing you should see is taller corners. This is something that is core to the Seahawks and Falcons defense which then you can see that rubbing off to other coaches and teams. Like Chris Petersen. I think 3 years ago I noticed he was going after 6'2 corners and thought that was interesting that he was probably getting influence from Pete Carroll given that they are both in Seattle. Now, he's gone all in in recruiting specific measureables for corners. I like this, because he has clarity in what he wants in recruits and therefore can plan for their development and scheme for them.
the big takeaway though is that the coaching staff has a philosophy, vs a coaching staff that doesn't. You'd rather have a staff that believes in something vs a staff that is just taking "best available player" and then trying to figure out fit. This was my criticism of Mora's coaching staff, especially with Klemm. I had no idea what type of player Klemm was looking for in his OLine. It was all over the place, like he was doing "best available" that he saw at camps. With that, it becomes more difficult to coach up talent and then plan for them as you have a disparate set of styles/talent to deal with.
