  • UCLA had won a school-record 20 straight games, doubling the previous longest winning streak in school history.
  • UCLA's record of 20-4 in the last two years is the best in the Pac-10, as is its league record of 15-1.

He was named winner of the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, presented to the nation's top senior quarterback, and placed third in the Heisman Trophy balloting. He was one of three finalists for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award and one of three finalists for the Maxwell Award for outstanding all-around player. • Kris Farris was selected the recipient of the 1998 Outland Trophy, presented to the nation's top interior lineman.
  • Tailback DeShaun Foster tied the school record for touchdowns in a game by scoring four times (three rushing, one receiving) against USC. He was the first true freshman to score four times in a game and his 12 TDs this season are a school record for true freshmen.
  • Foster was selected first-team Freshman All-America by The Sporting News and Football News. Inside linebacker Ryan Nece was also a first-team Freshman All-America selection by The Sporting News.
