- He, Kenny Washington, and Jackie Robinson played "minor league" football in the Pacific Coast Professional Football League as the NFL had developed and enforced a color barrier in 1934 and extended until 1946.
- He and Kenny Washington was the first two African Americans to play in NFL (Los Angeles Rams in 1946).

- Earned All-Coast honors in 1939.
