BOOOM ... UCLA get RB flip
Posted Tue, Sep 18 8:02 am (Edited Tue, Sep 18 8:14 am)
Jahmon McClendon (6-2, 210) was previously commited to SD State & had a visit last weekend. Commits to UCLA per his website. Monte Vista High in Spring Valley, big bruiser back.

who can generate his own "BOOM". Great to get him since I believe Bolu is graduating this year and both Starks left.

Wouldn't want him to grow anymore if he project at RB. No clue on his speed though it looks like he plays in the secondary on defense.

Looking at his highlight film, he looks like a bruiser rather than a burner. Definitely not in the same mode as the backs Chip had in Oregon.

He just might be under-rated, breaks tackles and seems fast enough to gain a lot of yards; maybe because he does not have elite speed. Seems to be well grounded and knows how to comport himself on the field.

I see a tall, strong north/south runner who hits the hole and goes, much like Eric Dickerson. When he broke into space, he powered through tackles of the secondary. You need to tackle his legs to bring him down. When he broke clear, he outran defenders to the end zone. Not elite speed, but he is plenty fast and he is powerful. His long stride may fool the eye on his true speed, though. Tony Dorsett had that long stride that made him look slower than he was, constantly caused defenders to misjudge angles and miss tackles.

San Diego State has produced a fair runner or two. Marshall Faulk comes to mind.

Not a bruiser

From watching his videos, he's pretty quick and fast if he's really 6'2 210. I like the comparison to Eric Dickerson. I thought Chip would want a LaGarette Blount bruiser type as a change of pace, but this guy is interesting. I wonder what Chip has in mind for this guy.

He looks like a bruiser to me. He gets speed up in open field but he is more physical than fast.

Check out my post, third in line under bruinbeast's thread, "Will UCLA pick up this burner?", beginning with "As much as I...."
There is a lot of talent in San Diego, and we might just have picked up a difference maker for 2020, possibly even beginning in 2019.

This kid break tackle and can get away. Chip can find the diamond in the rough.
That why I think Chase Griffin is going to be a great UCLA QB. You never know could surprise next year take the starting position from DTR. Chase reminds me Johnny Manziel. We all know Chipster track record with QB’s.

Can He Play Defense ?

He looks a bit like an Anthony Barr type of athlete to me . He's a bit slow through the line and that may not translate well to the next level. His breakaway speed is impressive and I do like the fact he doesn't shy away from contact. Thus the the Defensive reference. Just a thought.

that in the SD papers he said part of his decision was based on earlier pt - SDSU is deeper at RB and he thinks he'll play sooner at UCLA.

I Don't See Where There Is Anything Sad About It

It sounds like a very level headed decision on his part.
Considering the dozens of departures between last season and this one for a multitude of reasons, there is nobody
currently on the roster who qualifies as a big running back, with speed as a bonus.
I used to chuckle at the oft repeated USC line that the only reason a recruit turned USC down was only because he didn't want to compete.
Only at USC is intelligence confused with courage.

contact so he will actually block a LB coming through the line. But as a single back will also be a threat to run. He looks like a football player so he probably will be able to play a few positions.
