In response to I would argue it's fine. (OswegoBruin)

As it is there are 18 slots in next years class and at the rate of attrition we've already seen I would argue this years class will have room for the full 25. Balanced against a slow recruiting pace and a season that may as well get set on fire for all the good it's going to apparently do, I'm struggling how you see this approach as fine. You still need players and you still have to recruit players for the program, if Chip doesn't see anyone he likes in this class then how in the high holy hell does he expect anyone in the 2020 class to sign on. Why would he deliberately go into a important season with a roster with a shortage of players? If he wants to just get some depth and practice squad guys, then hit the juco's, but for God's sake recruit a full class. Not recruiting a full class never ever works out in football as banking the scholarships just means you sign 26 guys vs. 234 or 24 and I would argue having a guy with one year of coaching at the college level is worth more than the theoretical "bird in the bush". I appreciate your optimism, but this is a beyond odd defense of what appears to be, at the very least, a concerning recruiting approach. Especially when the program needs talent....now and will be further along with that talent if they get guys in who Chip can groom in his program. I get building for the future, but you do that with FULL classes. |
