I Think DTR Is Coming Around

Please pause to consider that he is only in his second season of playing quarterback at any level.
He passes the athleticism test with flying colors, and his 73 yard heave in practice last yer I believe, gives testimony to his arm strength.
For the present he is wildly inconsistent, but considering how new he is to the position, should that be unexpected?

It's all about expectations

DTR was expected to be the QB he may become, rather than the QB he is. Still he's the starter because Kelly believes he's the best we've got. Since I hung up my whistle years ago, I'll go along with Kelly.

because this season is all but done at this point. There are no more than 2 wins on this schedule from what I have seen and that is being generous (AZ and maybe Utah or Cal at best). Get DTR 12 games of experience so he knows what he needs to do for 2019 and build around the young guys that were thrown into the fire like he was. Chip knows how to develop players over time and has his work cut out for him but this was a 4 year process and patience is key. No one wants Kelly fired so that narrative is completely false. This year is a throw away but vast improvement will need to be seen in 2019.

Speight will be gone... Lynch and Burton are not the long term answer/ play DTR every single snap and he will improve a lot.... Can You imagine how much easier the game will be for him next year when everything slows down? He will have seen every coverage and scheme and blitz and all of our skill position players come back except Soso and Bolu who have been disappointing. The line can only get better. Looking forward to next year. Hope DTR stays healthy/

Best chance to win. DTR can learn from bench

Not fair to all players to not give all players a chance to win every game. DTR is good ...but not a Josh Rosen type of impact QB.

If Speith can get our offensive players in better situations cause of experience of reading defenses ... do it!

If DTR doesnt improve...transfer will start or FR stud

Cant see Chip counting on only DTR for next year. The knock on DTR before coming to UCLA was that he only had one year at the QB position. Not enough time reading defenses.

There will be too many grad transfers available ...or maybe that stud QB were counting on?

someone else's football field. Sometimes that "bird in the bush" ends up being worse than the one you had in hand. Just sayin'......

most grass is cut really short, if not completely removed, these days. same goes for bushes.

That's a leap to think by inserting...

Speight that this team can beat any team in front of us and that he would pose a better shot at doing so than DTR. Should he get some snaps? Yes of course but I want DTR to develop. Rosen did not need as much developmental field time as DTR because he played a lot more QB from 14-19 years of age than DTR did. This season is over for the most part so play the guys that you expect to start next year and let them learn on the job. It makes no sense playing a QB that will be gone next year and may not offer a better shot at immediate wins. But, I do think that Speight should play and see what he can do now that he is healthy. If he can manufacture some wins then the conversation may change.

DTR, while showing flashes, had been abysmal. Tough situation.

True freshman with 1 year of HS....

playing the position and surrounded by a ton of young, inexperienced players. Not exactly a recipe for success like the Clemson true freshman stepped into there. True freshman rarely, if ever, have immediate success barring a dynamic overall roster and we don't have that. DTR needs to take his lumps year 1 and learn ala Troy Aikman year 1 in Dallas when he went 1-15.

If just if we could become Bowl eligible the extra practice time we could log in would be a huge help going into next season ! Plus a huge turn around would also be a boost to Recruiting .
