Anyone concerned?

That UCLA does not have a single commit from the 2019 class that is inside the top 500? I used to be happy when UCLA got someone in the top 50 or even top 250. Interesting how recruiting has really suffered in the last few years. Still early but concerning. Last year's recruiting ended poorly. It was a high volume lower quality class.

Some concern but it is a step in the evolution

I share some concern. However, CCK has made it clear he disdains the rankings from recruiting services and does not recruit players based on them. While I believe in CCK's ability to identify the skill set he is looking for in a player, I also have to believe some of the higher ranked players fit his profile. I posted previously I thought CCK would have better success signing higher rated recruits in CA while coaching at UCLA than Oregon. I still anticipate this happening as CCK and his staff continue to build the relationships that are critical in today's recruiting world along with HS players seeing the evolution of the UCLA program under CCK.

if we were with Mora, maybe, but not with Kelly

Kelly clearly disregards rankings, and looks for specific things in recruits without regard for what other offers the player has, how many 7 on 7 tournaments he has played in, etc.

Or later when we see actual recruits on the field and then judge.

Out of curiosity how many of those 500 can get into UCLA - lol

To me what’s concerning is the talk that they don’t put much effort into recruiting and the kids who say they barely hear from UCLA even with an offer

Big-time coach at a program with a lot of potential, he should be KILLING it this year. Look at what Frost is accomplishing at Nebraska of all places. I'm not sure whats going on but it feels like the program is deliberately lighting an advantage on fire for... something. You can absolutely make a program out of developmental players, but you have to basically redshirt everyone and then wait to see who gets good. I don't understand this strategy and frankly hope the JuCo's get hit hard to at least get some experienced depth in the program and UCLA isn't deliberately shorthanded with scholarships going into this next season.

Coach Kelly’s recruiting track record suggests he evaluated talent better than the recruiting websites. That, and Coach Kelly’s ability to coach up the kids, I’m not concerned.

However, PAC-12 and rest of the nation need to worry since Coach Kelly will get kids that he AND the recruiting sites agree to be highly talented.

No, for multiple reasons.

1) We started late on this class to begin with, as Kelly wasn't even on board until the beginning of December, long after many of these schools had already offered and built relationships with these kids.

2) Kelly's system is slow, he takes much more time to evaluate and pick and choose who he recruits, and he prioritized kids who bloom in their senior seasons, many of which are barely halfway done.

3) Kelly isn't going to waste time with Blue Chip kids who demand attention. He can get kids that will be nearly as good in their college careers that take less time to recruit because they are not attention seekers, leaving more time for evaluating, coaching, and recruiting other prospects. This matters especially for guys who are less likely to choose us in general, like Bru McCoy.

4) Chip is not rushing his program just to land a few kids. Hes taking his time and finding his guys. Why anyone would demand he rush that process makes no sense to me. Who cares about recruiting rankings? We hired chip to build his program here, let him do it at his pace. If that takes 3 or 4 years, too bad. Hes earned that and more.

Chip does not recruit like anyone else. The best comparison is Chris Petersen. Classes weren't ranked high, ie 30-45 range, but they were his guys, and now they compete at a high level. Freaking out about any given class is silly to me.
