That would be another good get for the secondary some byu people said he was the best player on defense to close out the year.

The corner from Weber is a beast. Heā€™s got no measurables besides heart but is a damn good football player and would immediately be the best cover guy on the roster.

A developmental league for Power 5. Heā€™s our 3rd transfer from a MAC school this year. KSUā€™s HC quits to be PrimeTimeā€™s OC. I feel bad for those kids stuck playing half their games on Tuesday and Wednesday nights in empty stadiums. Now with the portal and NIL that once proud ā€œ Cradle of Coachesā€ is going to become CFBā€™s version of AAA baseball. That being said, hope they keep sending their best our way.

It's funny, I started rewatching the Ucla-BG game so that I could watch JA.

3rd play of game (1st play had a holding penalty on Ucla), dtr threw a pass to ezeike on the right. Zeke was running away from dtr, basically right along the LOS. JA came up fast and hard to blow zeke's legs out from under him for no gain. It was an aggressive, sure play.

I think it's cool when a guy plays against Ucla, loses, and then signs up the next year. (Muasau, Oladejo and now JA.)

Often, guys are aholes when they are winning. They talk shiit etc. And it doesn't leave a good impression on the other team.

But I think Ucla has been pretty classy the last two years. It's impossible not to be impressed by Zach. He's such a warrior.

But guys like Muasau, Oladejo and JA see how well conditioned the Bruins are. How well coached they are. How good the o system is. How much help the Bruins need on defense.

Ucla may not be a lock for the cfp next year. But it's gonna win a lot of games. The competition at practice is gonna be good. And the rep with the nfl is pretty good right now, and hopefully it gets better. Welcome to Ucla, JA!

This is why UCLA can win going to the portal

As part of my conversion to the use of the portal being viable for UCLA, it's players like this that have changed my mind. UCLA is an attractive program to many players. Many of them weren't on the radar when they started their CFB careers. They enroll elsewhere and establish themselves as better than expected CFB players. Others initially go for the glamour of the elite programs and decide to move on after the luster wears off for them personally. Now they enter the portal in this new world.

UCLA now comes calling since they are established players or former HS players of interest and they see an opportunity to play in the big LA market. How many have mentioned Hollywood or Westwood in their tweets? UCLA gets them exposure and a chance to play big time CFB.

I realize some question the ability to fill roster spots with new players every year. I look at these players as being similar to one and dones in basketball. If a player can make an impact in that one year and improves your team's chances of competing for a conference championship, you take him. You don't want an entire roster of transfers but they can be a part of a solid foundation.

UCLA consistently winning with transfers will help continue that recruiting pipeline. Combine that with improved HS recruiting as a result of winning and the 50/50 type of mix is a formula IMO that can work.

Amen! And what makes it work is....

... the culture.

Ucla football is an open arms, welcoming place.

Chip is not interested in guys who are bad for the locker room. He's very careful to only offer guys who are serious, "books &ball" guys. Back in my day, the punter was always the drug dealer on the team. I don't think Ucla even has that anymore! (Now they have med men... so easy. Another attraction for guys coming from the Mac!)

But I digress.

I'm pretty tribal. I think a lot of football players are. I've wondered how I would do in today's game where the roster is made up of 30 to 40% transfers. And I think I would quickly adapt to it. It's all about winning. Do these guys give us a better chance to win? I think the answer is definitely yes. And it's a great lesson for the adult world. Most companies don't just hire new college grads. The experienced hires bring with them practices that were proven to work in the setting of another company. Maybe they can be applied here. If I'm a db or coach Norwood, I would love to talk shop with JA. "What was one thing you guys did at BG that was pretty cool and successful? What made it work? What did you wish you had done differently?"

This guy has 4 years of real balling to draw upon. There's a lot to learn from guys like him.

The other thing that makes it work... chip plays a LOT of guys. Way more than I've ever seen a Ucla coach play. And playing is more important than winning. If you play, there's film on you. If you play, you have a chance at a future in the sport. Either in the NFL, as a coach, or in the media. If you never see the field, it's hard to have credibility if you want to go into media. So if you're a homegrown Bruin, a transfer coming in isn't threatening unless you're an OL or a QB (because those are the two positions where chip does NOT play a rotation of guys... that's how important those positions are)

I hope see more interior linemen....

on both sides of the ball coming to Ucla because everyone that knows football realizes that titles are won in the trenches (OL and front 7 on defense). Ucla has only 5 interior line recruits to date (USC already has 12!) so if we are using the portal so much we need to get more big athletes as well. Use the portal for that.

I wanted UCLA to offer the Oklahoma State DT

He was a 300 pound starting DT for Oklahoma State and had one year of eligibility remaining; but San Diego State grabbed him because UCLA didn't offer. The kid is from Riverside and wanted to be close to home. Well maybe he wasn't an academic fit.

His official visit started on Friday and by Friday night he had committed...............and of course the visit lasts through the weekend so the staff/school must have made a big first impression on him.

The second he got the offer, he decided.

It's like when you get the letter that you've been accepted. You just know in that instant. It might take a day to formally accept... but the desk is done.

Anderson - Ramsey could be a great safety tandem

If Anderson plays like he's capable, teaming him with Ramsey will provide UCLA with a veteran DB and a promising prospect. Another transfer would help at the CB position as UCLA needs to improve its defensive backfield.
