Can’t short the big man 6 boards. Zach Lavine had 40 on 15-20 shooting. Big night for Bruin one and dones

He's getting a chance to play.

We watched some of the action. Moses did pretty well, good aggressive vwork, less tentative than at UCLA. He did best when OKC went with smallish PF Justin Jackson at the four and three small wings. I always liked how well he moved, still Markkanen was drawing him outside his natural effective area on defense. Had several cheap fouls there, got two blocks on LaVine. That said, OKC is not gonna be mistaken for a good defensive team anytime soon.

Seeing a cheap contract like his, that club's complete roster overhaul path suits me just fine for the kid's opportunity, development path. Hope he sticks around a while.

What might have been if he stayed at UCLA

As a Bruin fan, it is enticing to think about the team last year and this year, with Moses Brown at center. Lots more points in the paint, better defense (Brown's defense would be pretty good for college even though he's got work to do for the NBA level), and players like Jaime able to play at his natural position.

Good illustration of how disruptive early departures have been for the Bruins.

Those effects are found at UCLA and a lot of places, year to year, cumulatively too. The old model of a program grooming top prospects and raw but athletic talents together over time is reduced to a feebler version of itself, yielding teams of comparatively second rank of quality today.

The NBA Players Association and the NBA redefined that model continuously and it is still evolving.

Reaping top results built on team play is largely, irrevocably, history IMO except for rare occasion. More and more coaches now turn to the immediacy of three point shooting for the immediacy of impact, paying a price of volatility as well.

If Only Moses Had Played A Year Under Cronin

Of course the plan Moses had was to be a one and done. That being said, can you imagine how much farther along Moses would be if he had stayed to play under Cronin for a year.

Yes, yes we all know the theory of going G League with no classes and no limits on practice time. However, what Moses needed was intensity and fire, and Cronin teaches that in spades.

I strongly believe spending last year learning to play with passion would have earned Moses a much higher draft position and better contract. Enough better to far outweigh what he made last year.
