End of season filling in time game
Posted Wed, Mar 17 2:55 pm (Edited Wed, Mar 17 2:56 pm)
Time for the old "coach's lineup shell game", end of the season version.

Here's how it goes.

Remember when Ben Howland had Luc Mbah a Moute listed in the program guide at 6-8 and put Kevin Love at 6-10 ? They measured in at the NBA Combine after leaving school at 6-4.75 and 6-7.5, respectively. Quite the ddeception, more than a 3" exaggeration each.

In this year's virtual lineup shell game, tell us which guy Mick Cronin took the most obvious "scribe liberty" with, on the most misleading height or weight ?

Is it:

- Riley, who looks 6-6 on a big hair day rather than the listed 6-9 ?

- Jaquez or Juzang, since Jaime looks heavier than Juzang by twenty-five pounds; who's seen the bigger true weight distortion ?

Campbell ? If he weighs more than 155 pounds I'm retaking my junior high geometry class. He's listed 180.

I wonder if Riley is actually taller than he looks

He doesn’t get up much, so he feels shorter with his game exclusively below the rim. I put him at 6’8”.

I think it’s pretty standard to add an inch or two on a basketball roster, no?

Anyone remember when Oregon football listed their punter at a 4.5 40?

Why is this important and why should I care about this?

No one is judging what's fun for anyone else here. Free participation in all topics UCLA basketball.

So good for you about winning a game, but I don't much care if UCLA wins tomorrow. Yes, really. Emphatically !

Because it won't make a bit of difference to me or the program one bit. This year's team is nice, but it is not a very good team, They won't go far at all.

What I do care a great deal more about is the game itself, and secondarily, how closely Coach manages to help the guys play up to the team's combined ability. They can be proud of themselves with their best effort, win or lose, and that's what matters to me. The game's the thing, not the outcome - to me.

represents a great oppt'y to lay another brick in the foundation that Mick is building and dare, I say important. Winning games like this one tomorrow would help accelerate our progress for getting us back to competing at an elite level for championships. Mich St has party'd on us the last couple of times, I say our boys give em some payback and send them (and byu) home... Go Bruins!

Who was over 7' tall but had them list him at 6'11" because he said that anyone 7' tall is a freak.
