Bona balling out
Posted Wed, May 15 8:46 am
"UCLA big man Adem Bona, who ranks No. 49 in our Top 100, had a strong all-around day that suggests NBA teams should take a deeper look despite his up-and-down sophomore campaign. His measurements -- with a 9-foot standing reach and near 7-4 wingspan -- indicate he'll have little issue playing the center position at 243 pounds. He's clearly one of the best athletes in this draft as he reiterated with shuttle and sprint times comparable with many guards and an explosive 40-inch vertical that ranked second best among big men. Bona showed his power, mobility and intensity translates to the competitive 4-on-4 action as well, where he threw his body around and made his presence felt. While his rudimentary skill level and especially perimeter shooting might put a cap on his upside, he too could get looks starting in the late first round. -- Givony

I hate the 6 fouls in 20 minutes he got. Not good. Meaurables don't mean much to me. It is is staying on the court that matters.

They did all these measurements. Whoopty Doo. Did they measure his BB IQ? Did they ask him why we lost to the Nordhoff Matadors?

I think he should resolve that problem before leaving early.

Still doesn’t know what a foul is

Bona obviously has good athleticism but came in so raw. The fouls are troublesome because even when he clearly fouls he acts like they were bad calls. He didn’t improve much from year 1 to year 2. Fouls per 40 minutes went from 5.8 to 5.4. Yeah that allowed him to play a little more minutes but still way too many games where foul trouble kept him on the bench and he fouled out too many times.

He will continue to develop but to me he has offensive limitations and defensively while the athleticism is good I wonder how much of an impact he’ll make in the NBA. Role player at best type of upside unless his offensive game really opens up. It’s a weaker draft so maybe he does get drafted higher than expected.
