Didn't even try to break full court pressure
Posted Sun, Mar 23 9:21 am
Announcer said it - Mick was obsessed with just getting across the line to set up his offense. Mick wants his kids to play his way and that's it. Well they were never going to beat this team by just cleaning up "Mickball" - he was getting out coached and making Almost no adjustment. When the kept passing to the weak side for wide open threes and our guards were still collapsing to the basket for help on the drives that was all Mickball too. We also got absolutely killed by their guards slashing in and kicking it to the weak side. We couldn't even find our post guys most of the game and when we did it was late clock or the were way out of position. Tennessee played a heck of a game but we "danced with the girl who brung us" right out of the tournament. To be fair I want to say again Tennessee played a heck of a game and their defensive tenacity and hustle were going to be hard to match, but I didn't see Mick doing a lot to adjust to what they were throwing at us. Hope the women's team can get it done!

with a bad backcourt

This is not a hard fix

Jerime Anderson’s time is coming to end. Not angry at Cronin nor Anderson. It happens

Because you can’t attack a press

Against an elite defensive team with below-the-rim players.

How many fast breaks do you need to watch, where the Bruins get blocked or stopped, to understand that we don’t have the ability to attack the rim?

Other than Kyle, and maybe Dailey (who couldn’t keep up), everyone else’s is a below-the-rim player.

Attacking a press is basically a fast breaks through ball movement, but it requires a strong finish at the rim.

You’re arguing against Cronin while ignoring the fact that the Vols’ d is elite, as was their offense.

You don't need to be an "above the rim" player

To attack against press. You need proper spacing, ball handling and the brains not to go to the corner or stop your dribble near the half court line.

Our guards look like JV players when pressed

Dylan Andrews made horrible decisions and lazy p!ss poor passes, evidenced by 5 TOs and like 2assists. Most of his passes are 20ft from the rim. He does not even try to penetrate and rarely gets to the foul line. We were doomed since September and finished where we were projected to finish. We have a bad habit of inbounding the ball into the corners and tend to get trapped once we cross the half court.

It should be an easy fix.

He's a great defensive coach. He motivates his players. He seems to have the respect of basketball experts. Although his offense, his schemes, doesn't seem very well organized. Partially because after Jaquez he hasn't had a go-to offensive player. That's partially on Cronin and his recruiting - Jaquez was brought in by Alford.

But I think getting to the second game in the tourney was about right. Last night Tenn was by far the more talented team - offense for sure, but they looked like the better defense team. The better team won.

Thanks to Cronin and the boys for an entertaining year. Better than last year, for sure.
