In response to Tough time for Kiki to have the worst game of her career (uclanman)

Maybe from the shooting side, it was her worst outing of the season. But, Kiki also had 8 assists, which was her 4th best game of the season (her season high is 10). The ball movement was the one area that UCLA had a clear advantage today, as the Bruins had a rare game where they were outrebounded.
The dribble drives are a key part of Kiki's offensive game. But, LSU was clogging the lanes and trying to force UCLA into a perimeter game. A lot of those Bruin scores from outside came off of passes from Kiki.
The strength of this team is that if a key player is having an off night, others will pick up their game. Kiki and Lauren carried the team in the first 2 rounds. Today, it was Timea and Gabriela who stepped up. The Bruin women have 8 McD's All-Americans on the roster, and they buy into the team concept. It took a stellar superstar player to beat UCLA this season. And UCLA might indeed face that kind of unguardable matchup in the Final Four if they go up against UConn and Paige Bueckers. But, Betts presents the same kind of matchup to the opposition. So, it comes down to the other players stepping up in their roles. |
