Congratulations to UCLA for beating a tough LSU team to advance to the Final Four. The gutsy performance allowed UCLA to lead at the half despite Betts sitting out the entire 2nd quarter due to foul trouble.
Big shout outs to Timea Gardiner off the bench and Gabriela Jaquez. Gardiner's 5 three pointers were critical off the bench. Jaquez played her best game of the season as she hit 4 three pointers and was simply great all game. And the Bruins made all their FTs down the stretch.
UCLA will need better guard play. Outside of her FT shooting, I thought Kiki Rice played a poor game. She missed her outside shots and layups plus committed too many turnovers. Jones made 1 three pointer. Aarnisalo continues her nondescript play since her stellar debut against South Carolina.
But the most important stat was the final score. The first step in what could be a championship gauntlet has started successfully. Next up is probably UConn since I don't see SC winning without Juju. South Carolina awaits unless they are upset by one of the Texas programs in the Final Four. UConn and South Carolina were the pre-tourney favorites. Go Bruins! |

That was the Gardiner from early in the season. As she said at half-time, "shooters shoot". It's easier said than done but the players need to stop worrying about the non-calls or calls that go against them and just lock in. They can't control that stuff but they can control what happens in the next play.
It looks like Uconn is a -13.5 favorite. Hard to argue that with the way they've been playing but I wouldn't be surprised if SC gives them a game. Go Bruins. |

LSU COACH MULKEY PLAN WAS TO GLIP AND ATTACK BETTS AND GET HER INTO FOUL TROUBLE.
GREAT COACHING AND BETTS GOT 2 FOULS IN THE FIRST QTR. BUT WE OVERCAME A GREAT COACH.

The reporter started his question by saying that this is the second straight year LSU has been eliminated in the Elite 8.
Coach: “That’s terrible, isn’t it? Is that terrible, or is that good?”
Reporter: "Terrible"
Coach: “Is it? How many Final Fours you play in?”
(Other reporters laugh)
Reporter: "None"
Coach: “So it’s probably pretty good, huh?”
Not the same response, but it kind of reminds me of a certain coach who casually mentioned he has 500 wins during a recent press conference hahaha

So proud of the lady bruins. They've been the best team in WCBB all year long, with the few hiccups to USC during the regular season, but righting those missteps with the win over them to win the Big 10 championship. Loved the way Coach Close has had the women focus on toughening up both physically and mentally for the rigors of the season and postseason. They deserve everything they've accomplished. On to the next. Go Bruins!!! |
