Now is not the time to point fingers. Life goes on. I hope Mara finds a coach and system that can fully showcase his abilities and help him achieve his NBA dream. The kid has been very patient. He is ready for prime time basketball now. He will become one of the best bigs in NCAA next season, if not the best.

I also hope Cronin can find one or two rim protectors from the portal soon. Now that we have a real point guard, we need quality bigs. It’s a pity to see Kyle go. Without Mara, he could have played a much bigger role next season.

Regardless, next season will be pivotal for our program. It will shape the direction we take for the next five to ten years. Go Bruins!

Let’s move forward on both sides.

I’m shocked to read what Tracy Pierson from BRO wrote. It’s ugly, and I don’t trust a bit of what he said. But that’s not the point. For many, Mara’s departure was inevitable. Enough has been said on this topic. No need to repeat it here. Let’s move forward on both sides.

The kid gave UCLA enough patience and time, and he deserves a better future. As for Cronin, suck it up and go get a quality big to make UCLA competitive, at least on paper. For his loyalists, stop spreading rumors. It only makes not just Cronin but the school look bad.

Show some class and wish the kid all the best. If he had no say in playing behind an undersized center and getting only 11 minutes a game while he dominated every game given enough playing time, how did he suddenly go from that to demanding to start, dictate not only minutes, but in and out of games at will? Give me a break. That’s the funniest thing I’ve ever heard.

Per Cronin’s coaching of Mara, I believe it was excellent

He learned the high post, screening and assists from these positions well. Although he only got one good outlook passes all season, there were not any others that I saw were waiting to happen.

His help defense was getting better as where his strength. He did get too far under the basket at times but a large part of it was that the guards did not get the ball to him properly. In addition passes from the forwards to him should probably have been done more often but Mara did not go to the basket without the ball way to little to do that in a game. My guess is he would do that, or now possibly would have done that next year.

I think Cronin did not overload the kid and that was a good thing. Getting very good at fundamentals and team play will make Mara a better player in the long run. I hope Mara thinks about it before he signs with any team.
