Sharing this article I came across when looking at the discussion of local high school talent that got away.

Many did not go to UCLA. I was going to add to the last thread Paul Pierce (and Jason Hart) but the thread was full by the time I saw it. I saw quite a bit of high school basketball following Dijon Thompson at Redondo when it was clear that UCLA had the inside track on him.. Some great Westchester and Dominguez High teams/players in those years. Brandon Jennings was another great high school player who, like Tyson Chandler, turned pro right out of high school. Neither gave a sniff to UCLA.

John Williams didn't have a great NBA career, but in high school we all thought he was the second coming of Magic Johnson.

Best high school game I ever saw was Crenshaw vs Long Beach Poly in the Kiwanis Christmas Tournament Final c. 1983. Long Beach Poly was absolutely stacked with great players and John Williams almost led his team to the win in double OT. He hit a running shot from way deep to tie the game at the end of regulation.

Great high school and college player.
