Down go the Sooners to unranked Baylor

Certainly there are many games in the season, and I wouldn't weight that too heavily were I the Sooners, but it's hard to justify in my mind how UCLA isn't #1 after that loss and the Bruins coming through Clearwater unbeaten in largely dominant fashion.

Bruins will have a target on their back next Sunday vs OU

If the Bruins take over the #1 ranking this week (which they should after running the table in Clearwater this weekend), then OU will be highly motivated when the two teams meet next Sunday in the Mary Nutter Classic. Not sure if the Bruins need an even more motivated Sooner team on the field.

This is sophomore pitcher Jordy Bahl's 2nd bad outing of the season (she allowed 4 runs against Washington as well). Her ERA is now 2.58. Her season ERA last year didn't go above 1.00 until she took the loss against UCLA in the WCWS. The teams have her scouted out, so it's now a matter of how she adjusts. OU has plenty of pitching depth, but UCLA matches it.

The difference between this year and last year is that the Bruin offense is more dangerous, while OU no longer has Joclyn Alo who was a once-in-a-generation power hitter. Tiare Jennings is a legit POTY candidate, but she's not a feared slugger on the level of Alo or Lauren Chamberlain or Stacey Nuveman.

But, the Bruins will have enough to deal with at the Mary Nutter tournament, starting with #3 Florida on Friday. They will also play #14 Northwestern, #17 Kentucky, along with Iowa and Texas A&M before they take on OU.
