Tate Curran Returns to UCLA as Asst. T&F Coach
Posted Mon, Aug 19 11:18 pm
Joanna Hayes has added Tate Curran to her coaching staff, a somewhat risky move no doubt intended to bolster the Bruins' recruiting and training of talented pole vaulters. Since Tate is Anthony Curran's son, he can probably tap into his father's expertise on a regular basis, so maybe we shouldn't worry too much about the fact that Tate just graduated from UCLA in 2022. Let's hope his experience as a vaulter and his exposure to Anthony's methodology have prepared Tate to become a valued part of the track program in Westwood.

Now that the Olympics are over. Do you think we will start hearing anything about recruiting?

...but if the program remains invisible, I'll do my best to let Hayes know that we fans need to see news about recruits, injuries and athlete development.

This guy's quite an athlete. No doubt Joanna Hayes will be happy to welcome him to her squad.

I remember seeing him win the UCLA-SC dual meet at Drake Stadium by taking first in the triple jump on his last try (after clapping his hands to rev up the crowd). Of course he also competed for the U.S. in two Olympics and set a TJ world record in 1985 (58-ll.5). He's one of my favorite Bruin track athletes, and probably the most joyful.
