For anyone in the know: with 13 men on our roster, why did only 4 runners (need 5 to score) compete in our meets so far?

A Mystery for the Men's Cross Country Team

As you implied, gocade, the men only had four runners entered in the first race at Big Bear vs. UC Riverside and UCSB. Then again, at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Missouri, only four Bruin men competed. Oddly, though, the foursomes weren't the same. In Big Bear, freshman Everett Capelle led the way with a time of 18:27.08, which earned him a fourth place, and senior Patrick Curulla finished fifth (18:27.37). The other two UCLA runners were Aaron Cantu and Mark Cortes. In Missouri, Curulla and Cortes were joined by Jack Rosencrans and Angus Harrington.

The big gun for the men's team, grad student Michael Mireles, hasn't been in action, nor has Mia Kane on the women's side. I have no idea why neither Bruin has competed thus far, but Coach Andrew Farris may be bringing their training along slowly so they can peak in November.

MacB; hope you’re right about getting all the men to peak in November. Would love to see our best team effort in the conference meet

He came into it too late, had some D-1 partial offers, but found another school to be a better fit. I wish he had found it early, but at 6’5” he was a dedicated hoops player until he ran a 4:47 1600 m in his basketball shoes after practice. The track coach got word and insisted that he try track. He ran XC for the first time as a senior, came in 2nd in the section and 21st in the state. Had I only known.

His HS just won the state, and may contend for nationals. They are loaded and no seniors.

Best time of all divisions. Knew they would get it done, loaded team, came close last year with a young squad.

10th State Title for legendary CX HC Walt Lange, also won his 34th Section Title, most of any sport in state history. Great coach, can’t say enough about him. Classic Woodenesque.

Isaac Abbott, Jr., is a great runner, his dad also ran at Jesuit and UCLA, legend. May be the first father-son State Champions in State history.

11th at Nationals with no seniors. Next year.

You want to build a team, there’s some runners there.
