VB: UCLA alum Erik Sullivan named HC for USWNT
Posted Wed, Jan 22 5:53 pm
Al Scates is a singular figure in the rise of volleyball as a sport in the US. Now, his proteges are at the helm for the three highest level positions in the US national program.

Erik Sullivan was named as the HC for the US women's national team. Somewhat surprising move because while Sullivan has had a long coaching career, this will be his first stint as a head coach. Sullivan won two national championships as a UCLA player under Coach Scates. For the last 14 years, he has been the top women's indoor assistant at Texas, where they won 3 national championships.

Sullivan was rumored as a potential candidate for the UCLA job after Mike Sealy stepped down.

With Sullivan heading the US women's team, he now joins UCLA GOAT Karch Kiraly who moved over from the US women's team to take over the US men's team. And this whole carousel began when UCLA and USMNT head coach John Speraw was promoted to CEO of USA Volleyball.

In addition to the CEO and the two head coaching spots, current UCLA men's VB coach John Hawks is the head coach for the US men's U21 national team.
