Catching Up on Good UCLA T&F Performances
Posted Wed, Feb 26 11:06 pm
Two weekends ago (Feb. 14 and 15), some of Joanna Hayes' athletes participated in the Tiger Paw Invitational at Clemson in South Carolina and distinguished themselves. It was a huge meet with lots of powerhouse track teams competing (SC, Texas, Clemson, Auburn, etc.), and once again the UCLA women made their presence felt. Here are the Bruin standouts; the numbers in parentheses indicate the total participants in the events.

Alyssa Conyers, 400m, third in 52.84 (42)
Yanla Ndjip-Nyemeck, 60m hurdles, sixth in 8.15 (60) She ran 8.10 in the semis.
Sydney Johnson, long jump, second with a 20-3 (46)
Asha Fletcher, triple jump, first with an excellent leap of 43-7.75
Taylor Snaer, 200m, fourth in 23.07 (41)
Valentina Fakrogha, invitational high jump, third, 5-10.5 (small field)
For the men at the same meet, only two did well enough to list here.
Camryn O'Bannon, long jump, sixth, 25-1.75 (33)
Gabriel Clement II, 400m, seventh, 45.90 (44)

At the Husky Classic at the U. of Washington that same weekend, the competition was not stellar, but the men posted some good marks, so I'll start with them.

Hunter O'Brien, pole vault, second, 17-8.5
Cade Sommers, pole vault, fifth, 16-2.75
Michael Pinckney, weight throw, second, 69-7; shot put, fourth, 54-2
Chris Emig, weight throw, fourth, 64-2.25
Bennett Booth-Genthe, mile, fourth, 3:57.55 (103!)
Angus Harrington, 800m, seventh, 1:48.35 (57)
Parker Raymond, 800m, eighth, 148.38
There weren't many women from UCLA's squad in Seattle, but two did well.
Katerina Adamiec, pole vault, fourth, 13-1.5
Lyvante Su'emai, weight throw, second, 59-5.75; shot put, second, 50-1.75

This past weekend at the Boston University Last Chance Meet, the men's distance medley relay team (Dybdahl, Raymond, Harrington and Booth-Genthe) came in sixth and lowered the school record to 9:28.70, and at the Arkansas Qualifier, Michael Pinckney won the weight throw with a toss of 71-03.25, and Ka'Leila Abrille got fifth in the women's pole vault at 13-7.25. Aside from the DMR, UCLA did not enter any relay teams in the four meets.

Next weekend UCLA will participate in the Indoor Big Ten Championships in Indianapolis.
