UCLA Not a Factor in NCAA Indoor T&F Championships
Posted Sat, Mar 15 5:59 pm
Joanna Hayes has plenty of work ahead of her in Westwood. At the big NCAA indoor meet in Virginia Beach this weekend, the Bruins only had three individual qualifiers entered plus a relay team. The men got two points, the women just one. Oregon's women won the championship with 55 points, and USC took the men's title with 39.

Camryn O'Bannon was the only male Bruin competitor, and he finished seventh in the long jump (25-1.25), earning UCLA two points in the team scoring. And for the women, the 4x400m relay team finished eleventh and last with a terrible time of 3:53.51 because Kayla McBride dropped the baton on the third leg of the final race. Taylor Snaer didn't qualify for the 200m final, and Yanla Ndjip-Nyemeck finished eighth--and last--in the 60m hurdles final, good for one point.

For those who haven't seen races run on a modern, 200 meter banked indoor track, here's a link to a video of the women's 4x400m relay finals, which were done in three groups of four teams. The Bruins are in the second race, and you'll find that at the 8-minute mark if you just want to watch UCLA's team. They were running well when McBride lost her grip on the baton.
