Probably a good thing that the Bruins played Zona only 2 weeks ago. My understanding is that the coaches went back to calling Rachel's pitches from the dugout during the Regional. Zona's a free swinging, power hitting lineup, and they batted Rachel around during that last series when the battery was calling the pitches.
The Bruins match up well against the Cats. Hopefully, the coaches will have the right game plan for dealing with the Zona lineup. |

series come down to an SEC team vs a Pac 12 team. There are two branches that lead into the championship series and all the Pac 12 teams (UCLA, AZ and Washington) were stacked on one branch and the SEC teams (Alabama and Florida) were stacked on the other side. What they didn't count on is the SEC teams flaming out on the first round making it very unlikely they'll get a team to the championship series.
Go Bruins! Arrive early. Wear Blue. Be loud.

Zona's countering with senior Taylor McQuillin, who shut down UCLA a couple of weeks ago. Two former national prep POTYs going head to head on the big stage. And both pitchers won their opening games.
McQuillin though had to pitch 8 innings and 141 pitches. Garcia went 7 innings and 118 pitches. |

I hope this doesn't become a repeat of Rachel's last series against Zona where she gave up 3 homers in one game, doubling the number she'd allowed all year.
Palomino got the HR. Game's tied. |

The Cats basically self destructed in the top of the 7th. An easy fly ball turned into a two base error that scored two Bruin runs after McQuillin loaded the bases with two walks. Rachel just needs 3 outs and the Bruins are 1 win away from the championship series |

What the hell happened to former national POTY Kelly Barnhill?
Two years ago, she was absolutely unhittable for the Gators. Today, she got clocked in the 1st inning against Alabama, giving up a pair of 3-run homers. And the inning's not over yet. Barnhill's now out of the game and this might be the end of her collegiate career.
I know that she hasn't been the same pitcher ever since the middle of last year when she started getting illegal pitches called because of how she was lifting her drag foot. But, giving up a pair of 3-run blasts is shocking.
The winner of this game plays Arizona later tonight for the right to take on #1 Oklahoma tomorrow with a championship series berth at stake. |
