Can we talk about the last 3 years?
Posted Fri, Jan 26 6:31 am
In the course of mocking Rabid Bruin’s post re 4 and 5 star Bruins I noticed that the last 3 years represents the 2nd best stretch we’ve had this century.

The best run was 2012, 13, 14 and 15, with 9, 10, 10 and 8 wins respectively. Chip’s 25 wins over the past 3 years is better than any other 3 year stretch since 2000.

at all. I am not on the Fire Chip bandwagon.

That being said, if you have followed the Bruins since the 60s (It's when I started as a lad), we were far more competitive both in conference play and nationally during the 60s,70s,80s..even 90s. The wheels fell off after the Toledo years, except for an occasional productive season (I might be mis-remembering, but Karl had the team rolling one year only to get embarrassed by AZ and frankly the season didnt feel so good after that).

For me, College Football has changed far too much to make comparisons and note that Chip is on the best 3 year run we have ever had. Sure doesnt feel that way.

Well respectfully, that is an extremely low bar.

They've also been the easiest 3-year SOS this century, by far. Frankly, the last 4 years have been far and away the easiest SOS stretch this century.

Yes, it's been on paper a nice stretch, but there is a lot of muck in that record. Chip has played two two bowl games in 6 years and has a single bowl win against a bad Boise State team.

This team looked absolutely dreadful against Cal, ASU, and Arizona, two of those teams being teams we should never look dreadful against, even if we lose.

That isn't improvement. That's not upward trajectory, that's a huge step backwards from last season. And in the transfer portal world, that should never happen.

The alternative is that you're an attention starved cult member. All you need now is a red hat.

The season was more good than bad

The highs were fairly high (the D; big win over $¢, any time they win a bowl imo) and the lows were pretty low (QB issues and some play calls cost them winnable games). I think the Jekyll & Hyde bit is what can be grating on fans, but it's a competition and more often then not, they were competitive. I think that's about as much as anyone can ask for.

Exceeded the commitment level of the fan base

I imagine the University's commitment would match that of the fan base.
If Bruin football had fans like those that support Nebraska football, then they would have a strong case to complain about the last 3 seasons

I think it was someone important who said this about stats: “there’s lies, damn lies and statistics!”

While I’m a Chip supporter, “this century” shouldn’t be the measure of his success.

when it comes to the football program’s aspirations.

His frame of reference is too narrow. He thinks 8-5 and an LA Bowl win is one of the best UCLA seasons ever. It’s not his fault. He has only known Dorrell, Neuheisel, etc.
