Putting aside whether our administration would want to hire him, that guy seemed to have a genuine contempt for UCLA as an institution when he was at USC. Much more so than any other USC coach. I don't know where it came from, but it seemed to be more than just a rivalry thing. |

"I only care about winning and nothing else" not sure why that would be something to either admire or boast about, but OK..
I cant say that I pay much attention to the coming and goings of college football coaches, but I got believe there is a much younger and a much hungrier quality coach out there then the Cheaty Petey.
Plus there will unavoidably be some frustrating moments, and frankly I hate that stupid look Pete gets on his face when his team just got hosed...ie the late interception in the 13-9 loss to the Bruins and when Wilson threw that moronic interception to blow a sure Super Bowl Championship against Brady and the Patriots..
No thanks |

Yes, Pete Carroll has been successful. But he also left USC on probation. And in s totally classless move he had his quarterback Matt Barkley fake taking a knee in the last minute of a game he led UCLA by 2 touchdowns at the Coliseum and throw a touchdown pass to an unguarded receiver, which he followed up by laughing with Barkley on the sideline. I want no part of that creep. |

I hated him at SC, but would welcome him as I believe he would elevate program to be highly competitive nationally. Would be very impactful for program to attract recruits, transfers, and NIL deals.
I this case I will put my hatred for SC and anyone associated with their program aside. I want the program to win and be relevant.

...if he could throw TDs and wore the right colored uniform.
My rooting interests require a team I can be proud of, meaning the personnel themselves and not merely their results in competition.
Maybe I won't go so far as to say Pete Carroll can DIAF, but I want him nowhere near my university.

It's a bit surprising to see some posters giving support to Carroll as UCLA HC. Here's a few reasons why I say no. 1. Carroll is a "win at all costs" head coach. SC talks academics but much of their school identity revolves around their FB program. Remember Carroll was ridiculed by SC fans when he was initially hired - he realized he wasn't a popular choice so he did whatever was needed to win and keep his job. UCLA views itself as an academic institution first as it should and Carroll wouldn't be able to coach at a program with this perspective. 2. Carroll built his HC image at SC. He became a legend at SC. There is no way he would risk his free pass at SC by taking the UCLA job (unless he was a Trojan horse whose goal was to destroy the UCLA program from the inside). 3. Carroll is 72 years old. I imagine UCLA is seeking a HC who is younger and plans to stick around (assuming he is successful). 4. Carroll is not taking a job that pays like UCLA. Kelly was the 27th highest paid HC in 2023 according to USA Today (and is actually lower on the list since private schools like SC and ND do not have to divulge this info). |
