But our Dline got pancaked a few times…the offense will need to get going at some point, if not, CDF needs to find somebody else to run it. I did think this oline is a better line up. I like Yoon, Carlin and Digiorgio on one side. I think they can run the rock better, hopefully CEB will commit to more of that.
The physicality of Big Ten football is real and the program needs to adjust or it will become a consistent bottom dweller. |

I used to follow the Colts. They were horrible back then. I used to stay up late for local sports news( didn't have ESPN back then) for final score and highlights. Even in a loss which were plenty, I simply enjoyed seeing the players( Barry Krauss, Vernon Maxwell, Curtis Dickey, Chris Hinton, Eric Dickerson, etc, etc) make plays. Maybe I never grew up in that regard, I don't care much about tactics or play calling, I simply enjoy what these athletes are capable of on the field. That's the entertainment part of football for me... of course I'd be lying if I said winning doesn't matter. But I don't dwell on losing....at least past Sunday, lol. From Mon to Sat, my optimism grow and repeat, lol. Maybe a talent I mastered following the Colts. |

I didn’t see much progress at all. Some very small glimmers, but overshadowed by significant issues that I don’t see getting fixed by this staff. I can see why you’re cautiously optimistic, I am solidly, though not unshakably, pessimistic.
Some have said here we weren’t blown out. We absolutely were. 17 points is a blowout. I counted three good UCLA drives, resulting in a grand total of zero points. The only points we scored were the result of a busted coverage and big gain/garbage time.
Martin is significantly more poised and accurate than Garbers, and making much better decisions. Garbers should not start again. That said, Martin had some very poor plays as well, though that’s hardly unexpected.
Defense was embarrassing, as it has been all season. Kafusi is making Azzinaro look like Dewayne Walker with his absolute passivity in playcalling. Stop trying to make the 3-4 happen. It’s not going to happen. Sitting in soft-cushion zone D with very little pass rush is going to drive me to insanity.
At least some long overdue personnel changes have been made, but are reflections of the very poor transfer recruiting by this staff. DEs are benched in favor of Femi. OL transfers are benched in favor of Chip walk on Niki Prongos (who played quite well) and Sam Yoon (who played just ok). Kaylin Moore is still playing, but was beaten like a drum repeatedly. Harden should not be starting at RB. He has been here for years and has developed no vision. He misses holes left and right. He was very lucky he didn’t get injured on that long play by not being aware of the tackler.
And then there is the complete lack of discipline. We are very lucky the late 3rd quarter PSU punt wasn’t called roughing the kicker. It very much was. We’re very lucky Jaylin Davies didn’t get a targeting call, he absolutely committed one (though so did the PSU player who wasn’t ruled targeting, showing targeting is still a badly written and enforced rule). I saw some good effort (Femi, Martin, Schlesinger, etc) and some really bad effort (Davies, among others).
And then there were the coaching decisions. Going for it on 4th down twice in the first quarter, then kicking a FG inside the 10? What? Down three scores but running slow huddles and no hurry up in the final quarter? Just many bad CEO decisions. CDF has done very little to show me he’s capable of being the manager of this program. |

The defense held Penn St to 85 yards rushing. They average 251 YPG so that’s impressive.
Oladejo, Medrano, Schwesinger and Toia are playing great. Wish I could add some more. |

because on offense we moved the ball better, had some good runs and passes. On defense, we were able to stop some 3rd down conversion. Was it enough? Heck no! Was it better? Oh, yes!…from my eyeball test anyway. I think our expectations may differ against a top 5 team on the road in that atmosphere with a retooled oline and new qb in his first start. Here’s to hoping ???? |
