And since the investigations concluded, Andrew Luck got hired as the Stanford's football GM. On the organizational chart, the GM sits above the HC. I don't think that Luck wanted to start his tenure going into next season with this kind of cloud hanging over the program.
If it didn't become a national story, I suspect that Luck might have been okay with letting things play out. His tepid vote of confidence after ESPN started snooping around over the weekend was a first sign that Luck was checking to see what direction things were headed first. And once The Athletic/NY Times began poking around, Luck did an about face and issued a more definitive statement to fire Taylor. FWIW, Andrew's dad Oliver Luck is a long-time pro sports exec and college AD at WVU. |
