RIP Baldbruin
Posted Mon, Apr 14 3:15 pm
My good friend and long time BG member Baldbruin (Kiley Akers) passed away on Saturday after his 5 year battle with lung cancer. Kiley graduated from UCLA in 1995 and was Bruin to the bone.

Kiley turned me on to Bruin Gold, or as we called it, “THE BOARD” all the way back in 2000 and was a fantastic poster. Dude was funny and passionate when discussing his beloved Bruins.

He was the heart and soul of the 3-4 of us who attended nearly every home game from 2000 to 2019. If you ever heard his chant in the Rose bowl “YOU SEE US..UCLA!!! That was him (us) in section 22.

Kiley was a coach with Team In Training running and raising $ for cancer research the last 15 plus years. He was an amazing human I will miss dearly but never forget.
I want to thank the admin here for creating a place he loved talking Bruin pig for so many years.
If anyone is interested in learning more about Team in Training to help fight cancer here is a link to their website: https://www.teamintraining.org

I don't know if you remember, I met you and Kiley briefly many moons ago when you came upon my group's tailgate. And we sat in the middle of section 22 and heard your chants.

His work for Team-in-Training is such a noble thing to do. Please let us know how we can donate to Team-in-Training in his honor.

I do remember that. You guys were awesome. Those were truly the golden years of tailgating at the Rose bowl.

Again, thank you so much for keeping this wonderful place going. Every time I open this site I think of some of the best times of our lives.

Kileys favorite charity is the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. You can donate in his memory at lls.org. All his fundraising as well as that of his teams was for the LLS.
Go Bruins!

Might have sat by him at a game, served him at Kerckhoff, sat by him in a lecture, known some of the same people, passed him by on Bruin Walk, and on and on and on. It's a large campus, but we'd have spent years treading on the same turf, carried over into our mutual dive into this community we all share on Bruin Gold. I'm saddened to hear this news of the loss of one of our own. I hope his family, fighting through the grief, can come to dwell in those memories of him that make them smile. Tragic news, but thank you for sharing it.
