as a Seattle beer snob, that was a horrifically disappointing thread.

Guinness in Dublin, very fresh, different animal than what we get of it here.

With all the newfangled microbrews that have popped onto the market over the past decade, I keep coming back to Pliny The Elder. Yeah, it's the granddaddy of IPAs, but Russian River Brewing nailed the balance on that beer just right. Nothing about it will knock your socks off. It's just damn good all the way around.

All the better that it's very hard to find outside of California. Even in California, it's not easy to track down. But, it's well worth the trouble.

It's on the list of the world's greatest beers I've ever come across.
I would like to try it, but I can't find it up here.
Long ago, during my beer drinking days, usually following a meet, game or hard workout in 95+ degree Valley weather, my taste in beer ranged from what I considered good stuff, to the cheapest crap.
Miller's High Life was at the top of my list.
Through a cheap market beer, dark Harlequin, I developed a fondness for black Bavarian.
My neighbors who shop at a German Deli, infrequently bring me back something good in the potent 7-8.5% alcohol range.
Eva gave me a bottle of wheat beer, cautioning me not to drink and drive.
She was right.
Bill gave me a bottle labelled Schvartz something or other, telling me not to walk.
He was right also.
The fact that I used to like the dark beer served at Shakey's, is all anybody need know about the state of my beer sophistication.
Is Shakey's still in business?

As a SoCal beer enthusiast, I am never surprised by anyone's reaction to beer interests. My favorite doesn't exist, as there must be twenty or more great brews for me that stand shoulder to shoulder near the top in a given season or place.

...I'll have a preference in style.
In regards to cities where I have gone beer tasting, Seattle does have outstanding beer (Elysian, Odin breweries make fine beer), but Portland has equally fine beer in my opinion (Breakside Brewing has some outstanding stuff).
I have to say, I am quite happy with the craft beer being produced in LA.
I live very close to El Segundo Brewing and they have some great stuff too.

Today for example, I went for lunch with my son and we each had a couple seasonal oddballs (for me, instead of my preferred hot weather slake of a nicely hopped British style pale ale.) Stone Tangerine Express and Bear Republic Mosaic Rebellion were both very nice indeed. There seems little lacking for choice, and my fave season for beer is coming up: Fall.

can out-do a Colorado beer snob.

Most DIPAs made by Odd13 is a must try. Outer Range also does some nice IPAs.

I had a nice Odd13 pale.

I was advised that Weldwerks was pretty hot out there, so I picked up a 4 pack (that was stashed in the back). Pretty good for a hazy.
