The admissions scandal is increasingly focused on Southern Cal, and stories like this one will keep it on the frontburner.
Olivia Jade, Southern Cal freshman and the self-anointed "influencer" daughter of actress Lori Loughlin (and by far the most high-profile "walk-on" in the scandal), was apprently spending her spring break on board Rick Caruso's megayacht in the Bahamas. She was partying with Caruso's daughter on the 130-foot yacht when news of the scandal broke, and the arrest warrant was issued for her mother.

In case you don't know, Caruso chairs the Southern Cal Board of Trustees. While Caruso was issuing a tearyeyed statement claiming that USC was the victim in this scandal, the most high profile scammer (purportedly victimizing the university that he so claims to care about) in this whole sordid saga was HIS GUEST on board HIS YACHT.
Caruso has already looked horribly tone deaf in wake of the sexual abuse scandals at Southern Cal. This not only looks bad, but it implicates him personally. Yet, somehow he's still in charge of the search for a permanent university president. And somehow still a member of the Board.
I don't even think we've scratched the surface of how deep the administration's involvement in this bribery scandal goes. I'll just stop asking if things can get worse, and presume that they will. |
