Posting Pseudonyms, And Why You Chose Yours
Posted Tue, May 21 12:15 pm
Someone started this thread prior to 2005, and derived some interesting responses.
Recently, I exchanged a post with Wandering Jomad about Alaska, and realized the reason for his BruinGold posting pseudonym.
So.....I thought it would be fun to revisit it.

I had a subscription to the Athletic Journal when I was coaching, in fact used and modified the Delaware tee I found there, later on published my research into sprint starting positions in the journal.

In the Athletic Journal, there was a monthly column from a team doctor who treated athletic injuries, and he entitled it, "Doc Jock".
Since it fit, I borrowed it.
Can't say that I deserve any plaudits for originality in this instance.

Initially in ‘98, mine was 100%Bruin, but the % was no longer a usable character, so I used BRUINS1, aka Bruins “won”, and Bruins No. 1!

You had been a team doctor in the NFL.

Mine came from moving around a lot as a young person, beginning late in high school in Alaska, through the Navy and migrating to SoCal from Oregon. A woman I knew said instead of a wandering nomad, I was a Jomad (real first name is Joe).

Now, I've stated my first name and my small town. I feel so cyber naked.

UCLA linguistics was ranked #2...

right behind MIT. That was back in 1978. Plus, linguistics was tougher than any football practice or game I ever played in. I once spent close to three hours listening for a particular pronunciation of the "e" sound made in the Swahili language. It was a rare sound indeed.

but Bedbug is because I used to own a mattress factory. Actually it was a family business and I had been making mattresses since I was a teenager.

JPBruin91 = initials, graduation year, and best damn team ever!

Also, “TubaPlayingBiochemMajorAlumniSacTownSurgeonRatherBeCampingWithFamilyOrGrillingPatramiInTheBackyardSwillingStoutOrPortersLimirickFiendLedZeppeliListeningAndOfCourseTrojanHatingGoBruins!” was already taken by another poster.

I saw it as a metaphor to describe a well lived life, like a glorious celebration just for one's own personal journey...on a football forum, apparently.

Okay...It's because I grabbed it before the other several thousand Bruins named Steve...and I use it everywhere on the internet--even non-UCLA sports related--such as on cruisecritic.com, for example...

I'm an admirer of Aristophanes the ancient Athenian playwright who wrote farcical comedies often concerning the most politically unpopular and dangerous subjects. Sometimes the only way to present an unpopular truth is through comedy.

I'm not a big poster but I'm a big Bruin Gold Rover for the latest inside scoop of my beloved Alma Mater.
In the late ’60s, a band student wrote lyrics to a popular tune being played during football games, “I’m Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover.” The UCLA song was retitled “Rover.” At the height of the legendary John Wooden era, “Rover” was played only after lopsided basketball victories, which were virtually every game. Now, “Rover” is played after all UCLA victories immediately following the alma mater.

I have long been a lurker on this board....never thought about posting. When we relocated to the Tulsa area about 12 years ago, I needed to contact some other fans for help with tickets to the game at Tennessee. I try to attend every bruin game within reasonable driving distance(and sometimes unreasonable). I've been able to see such great wins as the Tennessee, Nebraska, and Texas wins, but also attended the losses at Kstate, Houston and OU.

I have thoroughly enjoyed your insights over the years, Doc. I miss hearing from older regulars like DaBear and Deacon Blue.

I chose my email name/address when I join the long gone but great Ucla great DBS, Dead Bruin Society. My name is Elliot Levinson so I created the name Elevin3233. Add em up!!! 11, 11. for the number of championships the Bruins have. I've been waited so long to change it to a 12.
