I'm curious as to how many follow the Iditorod?
Comic strips are wonderful wherein animals can talk, or at least share their thoughts.
I recall a Frank and Ernest strip wherein a trophy was presented to the musher, and the lead dog was saying, "Why is HE taking credit for winning the Iditorod?"

Hey Doc:

You brought back many memories. When I first got to Alaska, I was active duty Air Force. I was part of the Rescue Coordination Center out of Anchorage. We flew helicopters and 130s all over the state in various missions.

One of these missions involved supporting the Iditorod from Anchorage to Nome. I must have landed in EVERY trail point. The stories and experiences are too many numerous to tell, but the DOGS were the most amazing characters of all!

LOVE your post, because you know what? These animals are indeed the toughest SOBs one will ever set eyes on.

we toured the Iditorod Dog Sled Center directed by Susan Butcher, IIRC. Fantastic animals!
