RIP to "The Professor", Bruin superfan board poster

Dr. Sean Wang bled blue and gold. He received his bachelor, master, and doctorate degrees from UCLA in statistics. He was also a regular at UCLA athletic events in all sports. He died last week at age 38. Way too young.

Until I read the tributes and obituaries, I didn't connect the dots with his online life. He was a regular poster on Bruinzone and BRO. His online moniker was "The Professor." He was THE authority on not only UCLA's national titles, but the championships from other schools as well. His knowledge extended beyond the NCAA and he would cross-tabulate the titles from the pre-NCAA era and all manner of mythical titles. He also did any manner of other statistical tabulations for many different sports. He was about as knowledgeable as any poster on any Bruin fansite.

Just two weeks ago on the 247 Sports boards, someone asked about which school had the most 2nd place NCAA championship finishes. Everyone said that The Professor would know and would post the answer. Sure enough, he not only posted the answer, but had the rank order for the top 30 or so schools, and included separate results for men and women as well.

No matter what might be going on, he stayed positive about UCLA sports. He did not get into the personal attacks and negativity that seems to run rampant on a lot of Bruin fansites. He was factual and a Bruin superfan.

Wang was also active on political sites. On Dailykos, he was known as the Bruinkid. Applied his statistical knowledge to his activity on those sites as well. Again, a very positive presence who loved sharing his knowledge of numbers.

I am so sorry that it took his passing for me to be able to see a face and person behind his online handle. So young …. He will be missed.

Highly knowledgeable, and a consummate gentleman.
He will be missed.
When asked about our favorite Bruin Zone posters when I used to post there, The Pprofessor was #1 on my list.
