Quarterbacks of that Era had the tendency to keep the ball low, and raise their throwing arm in an abbreviated version of a baseball pitcher's warmup. Red wanted that ball held shoulder high, cautioning his tailbacks who both passed and ran in the single wing, to pull the trigger the moment his receiver gets open. He said something like, "It may be but a momentary thing because he's not likely to stay open for long".
